06/04/16 Fontana Days Half Marathon, Half #130, Fontana, CA
06/05/16 Rock 'n' Roll San Diego Half Marathon, Half #131, San Diego, CA
These 2 events aren't always on the same weekend...but when they are, we have the opportunity to run both races on the same weekend!
Although the Fontana Days Half is a small event, this was the 61st annual race! Sells out every year so register early!
Why run this race? It's all about the downhill ride and push for a PR! Runners are shuttled up to Lytle Creek in North Fontana. At 7:30am a horn goes off and everyone begins their downhill journey to the finish line by Fontana City Hall. The course has water stops and support, but don't expect the city to come out and cheer. This is a low key event which provides all the basics for a great run!
This year we had a heat wave come our way which either pushed us to run faster (to beat the heat) OR we slowed down and played it safe. We can't control mother nature but the race organizers reacted by handing out wet towels to runners along the course.
This year was my 3rd and worst time, I blame the heat lol!
I plan on running this event every year my schedule allows! It's always fun to push for that downhill PR!
Shower, eat, drive.....hello San Diego! <-- that was the plan, friends and I got stuck in route to San Diego thanks to fires in the Temecula area which shut down the 15 fwy! What is normally less than a 2 hour drive ended up being 7.5 hours....we stopped at Pechanga Casino after 3 hours of gridlock.
....9:30pm Hello San Diego!!!! Shower, stage gear, sleep!
Good morning San Diego! Let's run 13.1 miles again!
A run in San Diego is always welcomed! Rock 'n' Roll is very consistent with their events, they have the experience needed to handle events of this size!
13.1 miles + all the pictures + sweat + finisher's medal + finisher's beer = a must run event!
Pictures speak louder than words....
Want to run #FONTANA2SD ? Guess what?!? It's happening again next year! See you all at the start/finish lines! Next stop Rock 'n' Roll Seattle!
