Half Marathon #114
Race Name: New Year's Race Half Marathon
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Back for my 4th consecutive year...yes folks, I'm a New Year's Race Half Marathon Legacy Runner! Fun Fact: This was my 6th half marathon (ever) back in 2013.
For the first time this race was held on Sunday night (instead of Saturday night). Also, for the first time a "Doubleheader Challenge" was introduced. This challenge gave runners the option of signing up for the half marathon along with either the 5k or 10k. I chose the 5k combo.
The 5k/10k races were held first, giving us an opportunity to warm up and collect a medal before the start of the main event. I'll admit, the cold weather didn't make it very pleasant, but I expected that.
The course changed again this year, giving us even more hills to climb. This race must be one of my hardest road half marathons ever. Along with that challenge comes a reward, some beautiful views of Los Angeles at night. I had to stop a few times to take pictures.
The other treat for runners is the opportunity to run inside Dodgers Stadium. I'm not a sports fan, but it's fun to run inside the stadium.
I'm really happy with the return of the original medal design.
There are two questions that I'm sure everyone is asking for next year:
1) Will the race be on Sunday again?
2) New Year's Day falls on Sunday 01/01/2017 <---will the race be held on New Year's Day for the first time??? Doubtful with the need for city permits....we'll need to wait to find out.
