Half Marathon #102
Race Name: Ventura Half Marathon
Location: Ventura, CA
This was another get in and get out race for me. I left work Saturday afternoon and drove to Ventura just in time to pick up my race bib before 6:00pm. Grabbed a chicken sandwich at The Habit (burger chain)...then went to my hotel to eat, stage my race gear and rest.
4:50am - time to wake up, get ready and go to the start line!
6:30am - the start of the race and it wasn't cold...in fact it was humid and borderline warm...this was a race to beat the heat!
I ran this race back in 2013 and actually shattered my PR time back then with a push from my friend Sergio. That was the first time I finished a race under 1:40....with a time of 1:37:28. I was in better (much better) shape back then. Now I can only get a 1:37 by running a downhill race lol (I'm not kidding).
Overall a great event - flat course, beautiful finisher's medal, beach party after the race....just one thing went wrong this year...apparently the course was changed and a mistake was made. My GPS watch read 13.6 miles...every half marathoner was complaining about the course being too long. The pacers were coming in late too! I heard the announcer confirm after the race there was a mistake and the times would be adjusted the next day. Whoops :( Still a great event in my opinion.
We didn't have good weather this year. The humidity combined with the sun was making me hate my run. I got the job done, crossed the finish line, said a quick hello to a couple of friends and made my out to shower, check out of my hotel and drive to the office! Yes! Drive to the office on Sunday! It is peak season so no day off for me and no post race beach party (insert sad face emoji here).
At the end of the day the finisher's medal made the trip worth it!
