Marathon #11

Location: San Francisco, CA

lululemon offered complimentary screen printing at the expo (Fri/Sat) and at their Grant location (Sunday afternoon). This is a metal vent shirt I purchased on Sunday. My race pics show off my purple shirt which was printed at the expo (my friend Cheryl was kind enough to purchase it for me).

I haven't actually left my heart anywhere but that was lululemon's phrase for the race :-)

This a unique event because there are 4 races to choose from. The FULL Marathon and FIRST HALF Marathon (first 13.1 miles of the course) start at 5:30am & the SECOND HALF Marathon (last 13.1 miles of the course) starts at 8:30am. I recommend the FULL to get the complete San Francisco experience on foot :-) ...the 4th race is the ULTRA, you run the full marathon course at midnight backwards (from the finish line to the start line)...and then you run the entire course again with everyone else at 5:30am.

I ran this race last year and loved it so much I signed up immediately for this year! Traveling at the end of the month is hard for me (work) - with that said I flew up to Oakland the night before the race. The BART (train) took me to San Francisco where I met friends for a quick dinner and to get my race bib (the race allows others to pick up your bib, very convenient). I immediately went to my hotel (Parc 55 by Hilton) got everything staged, got ready for bed and set my alarm for 4am!

We were blessed with perfect weather on race morning! Not too cold, not too warm... it's still dark at 5am so there is a special vibe in the city as thousands of runners flock to the start line area, gather and do their final prep for the race.

Everyone ready to start to the race...

Is this a difficult race? I have to say yes - there are some killer hills, the second half seemed harder to me. Is the pain and effort worth it? HELL YES! I love running on the Golden Gate Bridge and so much of the course shows off how beautiful San Francisco is!

The Golden Gate Bridge...

Going up....I'm terrible on hills...no really, I hate them.

The view from the top! :-)

@werunsocial support on the course! Thank you all for your positive energy! @fitfam6  @renewedme @pavementrunner

The course runs by the AT&T Park...fans were lining up for a game.

@sattlertime joined me for my last few miles, a good distraction to help me keep pushing...

@renewedme killed it with that sign! "Run like there's a SALE at lululemon!"

The glorious finish line! No more hills...no more miles...all I need is a hot shower and a meal!

Everyone is so shy! :) Dean, Ciry, Pretty, Ed, @inanutchelle & @sugarshotsrn

Top left: @lucidbutterfly said hello as I ran by the start of the second half. Top Right: Pretty running the second half, I couldn't keep up with her at that point (I was out of energy lol). Bottom left: @sattlertime showing off his beard. Lower right: @strungoutrunner <-- she was a TSFM ambassador, I met her last year at the LAM expo.

At the lululemon VIP party! @nilesdvu (yellow tank) & @inanutchelle (blue hat)

The race bling for TSFM (Full) is so classy! Love it!

I also picked up this bonus medal! The California Dreamin' medal was handed out to runners who participated in both the Surf City Race (half or full) & TSFM (half or full).

The lululemon store on Grant Ave putting everyone in the SF Marathon spirit!

As much as I suffer on a full...as much as I regret it when I'm out there...there is an odd addiction to the challenge and pain. My friends are already asking me if I'm going to run again next year...chances are I will run the full again...see you next year TSFM!
