5 races, 2 states, 3 days, 8 medals...a blingwhore's dream...
Last year during this race weekend I ran the Avengers 5K on Saturday morning, spent the rest of the day and evening in the Disney parks and then on Sunday I ran the Avengers Half and the Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Half!
This year runDisney added the Captain America 10K to the Avengers race weekend so I thought it would be epic to run all those races along with the RnR Las Vegas 5K & Half. This took lots of planning but it was very doable. You can choose to drive back and forth but I prefer to save my energy by flying.
Here is a day by day recap of my crazy weekend...perhaps it will inspire you to run these races next year :)
Wednesday 11/11/15 - This was my deadline to finish packing for the weekend. Keep in mind, I had to pack 5 race outfits and whatever I needed for Thursday through Monday! Planning for this was way more stressful than planning for Dopey!
Thursday 11/12/15 - Went to work like any other day (except for all the race gear bags piled in my car). Left the office, drove to Anaheim, checked into my hotel, walked to the Disneyland hotel for packet pick-up, walked back to my hotel, set my alarm, got ready for bed.
Friday 11/13/15 - 3:30am my alarm wakes me up! I just love runDisney 5:30am races (insert emoticon of girl with a sassy hand gesture here). Walk to the start line, run the 5K, collect bling #1, walk back to my hotel. This day was all about resting and planning. I did drive to the lululemon store in Costa Mesa to pick up a few new items that were on my radar. Otherwise the day was all about staging outfits and double checking my gear for the weekend. Set alarm...go to bed...
Saturday 11/14/15 - 3:30am wake up call again!! Grrrr! Walk to the start line, run the Captain America 10K, collect bling #2, rush back to my hotel, shower, change and hit the road! I drove to the Ontario Airport for my first flight of the weekend! Viva Las Vegas! Friends pick me up at the airport, we go to the expo (picked up my 5K and half marathon bibs), quick bite to eat and we go to the 5K start line area. It was chilly! Ran a very fun night 5K with lots of music and neon lights! I'm pretty sure lots of the runners were drunk lol. Collected bling #3. This is the part of the trip that sucked. I found myself in Las Vegas surrounded by runners that had nothing to worry about...they were going to enjoy the city with drinks, food, shows, clubs, etc.... I had a flight to catch! Part of me really wanted to stay (keep in mind I had been up since 3:30am). My friends drop my butt off at the airport. I'm now back in Ontario and drive myself to Anaheim....shower, final staging for Sunday, in bed by midnight.
Sunday 11/15/15 - DAMMIT! DAMMIT! DAMMIT! &#@%*!@#!!!@#!! 3:30am alarm goes off! The hardest day of the weekend is here and I'm not well rested! Uggggh!!! You REALLY need to want this in order to make it happen....again, commit to the entire weekend before you even think of registering for all of these races. Well hello there runDisney Start Line! Nice to see you again (wink, wink). The Avengers Half Marathon was not easy for me. I lacked energy! The last 3 miles were tough - my legs felt heavy! I finished, collected bling #4 & #5, rushed over to my hotel, showered, final gear check (what goes to Vegas and what stays in my car?)...I hit the road...back to the Ontario Airport. Viva Las Ve....wait I was just here? Taxi to my hotel. I had 45 minutes of down time in my hotel! I didn't nap....but I laid in bed with my eyes closed - that rest gave me the energy I needed! 4:30pm - the 5th and final race of the weekend starts! It was cold! It rained! It was windy! All of the elements that I dislike tested my will! Surprisingly I felt good! I felt better than I did that morning! 13.1 miles in Vegas done! Collect bling #6, #7 & #8! Showered and grabbed a burger for dinner. I was done with the weekend and I felt great! I don't understand why last year was harder for me?
Monday 11/16/15 - Woke up feeling great! No pain and had lots of energy! Final flight of the weekend back to Ontario...mission accomplished.
