Confessions of a blingwhore....

Before we get into the details of this race, I must admit my life has not been in order. Work has taken over for some time now. I am completely out of shape because I'm not cross training at all. Ideally a few CrossFit classes a week keep me strong...that hasn't been possible. In addition, I have been stress eating and making wrong food choices...this means I have gained weight. It's not pretty... I'm getting mentally prepared to clean up my diet late November. I need to plan and make it happen. I also need to get my work schedule under control so I can go back to my CrossFit box.

The course...

The marathon started at 6:00am, before sunrise. As expected days before the race, it was not cool at all...in fact I was sweating while waiting for the race to start. I stood in the corral waiting and thinking about how I was not well rested and out of shape. I had some doubts creeping in my head with the heat that was about to take over the city. There was no turning back, my Beach Cities Challenge goal was to complete all 3 races, all FULL Marathons.

Not the flattest course...not the hardest...somewhere in between. I enjoyed running by the marina and was excited to run by the beach, but the sun was out full force by the time I got to the beach! The course offers a unique way to see Long Beach, including neighborhoods that hold on to a unique Long Beach feel.

Course support...

I must give Run Racing a lot of credit for course support. Although mother nature handed us a bad weather card, there were more than enough water stations to keep everyone hydrated. In addition, the community came out and handed runners everything from fruit to popsicles! Thank you everyone for being out there supporting us!

The bling...

Giant palm trees! The marina! The sun shining bright! <-- All of this reminds of the race. This bling gets my approval! I like it! :-)

The pictures...

Always have a nutrition plan for a full marathon! Salt Stick capsules are must for me to replenish salts and minimize the chance of getting cramps! Gotta love a personalized race bib!

#runtothesun (literally)

Those cat suits are priceless!

Thank you AJ @a2thej44 & Christina @plaidtink for being out on the course to cheer everyone on!

She's purrrrrty!

The golden clam! She opens and reveals all that is connected with highway 1! A Surf City Marathon Surfboard, The OC Marathon waves and Long Beach's one and only Queen Mary! Next year's challenge medal will be different and I have my eyes on it!
